Peter Russell served as a politician, office holder and judge throughout his life in Upper Canada. Russell attending boarding school for 4 years which was the extend of his formal education. He attended college and university for a short period of time before joining the army. Russell moved to Upper Canada in 1791 accepting a job as receiver and auditor general after an earlier position he was offered fell through. in 1794 he was appointed a temporary position as judge for a year before he took over the position of speaker of the Legislative Council. When Simcoe took a leave of absence he requested Russell take the position putting Russell in an authoritative position for the first time at the age of 59. Many changes were made along the course of Russell's time in Upper Canada. He is remembered as cautious and practical unlike Simcoe that had a much more vivid imagination. He is not considered a great asset to the history of Upper Canada, regardless of many accomplishments.
Description
Peter Russell signed the bottom of the land transfer, granting land to John M Kirgen. He was the government administrator at the time of the land transfer.
