Mayhew's 1902 Diary

Welcome to a day in the life of F.J Mayhew and the fascinating world of Excelsior Diaries. This exhibit provides a look into the life of F.J Mayhew, through the contents of his diaries, in which he wrote personal accounts of his life in Chatham-Kent throughout the mid – late 1800s. The Mayhew Diaries are a spectacular collection of diaries spanning the late 19th Century. Additionally, this exhibit also explores the brand of diaries which Mayhew used, known as the Excelsior Diaries. The Excelsior brand of diaries contain an almanac within in its front pages. These almanacs are an interesting publication in and of themselves, as they can provide valuable information about the years and places in which these diaries were published. The main goal of this exhibit is to explore the historical background of F.J Mayhew and the historical use of diaries throughout history.
