Greater Essex County District School Board
THE GECDSB is a crucial factor when it comes to music education. Public education itself is governed by the GECDSB, and having various schools and programs in place would not be possible without them. Not only are public schools affected by the GECDSB, but they play a large part in interacting with the community as well. They seek to share the accomplishments of the students with everyone, and bring the community closer under the umbrella that is education. Some musical examples of this include school concerts, which are regularly performed and open to the public. There are also benefit concerts, where the GECDSB will bring in professional musicians to put on a show and help raise money for a cause, such as the “White Noise” benefit concert that was held on February 9th, 2017, to raise money for the Student Nutrition Program.
They also seek to give students every opportunity they can, introducing such programs as the “Share Your Music” project. This gives high school students that are interested in composing the chance to submit recordings of their own original compositions. Students that are selected will get to record their song and have it included in the GECDSB’s “Share Your Music” album, which is made available to the public. Students in Windsor and Essex County are given many opportunities to share their hard work with the community, and this is made possible because of the GECDSB’s commitment to furthering education.
