Detroit Techno

A community, no matter what size or affiliation, cannot strictly be bound by geographical barriers. This is especially true with music as a source for community building; as a matter of fact, music is one of the most influential factors for bringing separate communities together to create a synthesis of culture. The Windsor-Detroit connection is a prime example of how people physically close yet distinct from each other work to create a fusion of existence, and techno music can be seen as a triumphant example of this phenomenon.

With Detriot being such a massive hub for electronic music during the insurgence of it's popularity, it was natural that it's thriving scene would attract aspring Canadian artists as well. It is Windsor's own Ritchie Hawtin who is known prominently as a performer in the blossoming Detriot Scene, which speaks volumes about the amount of cultural connection this musical movement had for Windsor. Though it may not have been taking place in Windsor directly, the influence the city had on the uprising that was taking place was not absent by any means. 

Today, Detriot not only serves as a haven for eletronic artists to congriate, but also as an excellent festival desination for fans and enthusitasts of this music. The Movement Electronic Festival is an attraction to electronic music fans on both sides of the border, and the close proximity makes it easy for this musical community to sustain interest in a wide range of audience.
